Celebrating entrepreneurs with Fleur Adams

Fleur Adams started Perth Hills Artisan Markets (PHAM) just this year and within 8 months was nominated for a new business award. In our celebrating entrepreneurs series we sent Fleur a few questions to answer about her business journey.

What do you love most about being in business?

I love getting to see the growth of so many amazing artisans and creatives; seeing them believe in themselves when they doubted at first.

Why do you do what you do?

Because I love seeing people transform, I love to bring a PHAMily together to work with each other rather than against each other.

What word/s come to mind when we say entrepreneur?

A mind in motion that creates not just for themselves and their family, but for the good of others.

How do you celebrate your wins?

A bath and a massage, massage is my major at present.

Best productivity trick?

Making lists and working on the hardest item first, breaking everything down into manageable tasks and setting procedures in place to simplify the work load.

One thing you do every day to stay inspired?

I get inspired by our $11k dog Roxy who has beaten odds that not many would get past!

Who do you look up to and why?

At present Mandi Parker from Barefoot Entertainment as she has been an inspiration and a godsend in helping me learn more.

Best business/entrepreneur community/networking group?

Love the Like Minded Bitches Drinking Wine group on Facebook and Mumpreneurs for meetups, along with Hills Biz Chicks and the Chamber of Commerce.

Favourite podcast and why?

Closest I get is Boss Mode Radio.

Learn it yourself or outsource?

Both.

Your biggest supporter?

My daughter, as she believes I can do anything and she understands more than even hubster, that I have high expectations of myself.

Best way to keep track of new ideas?

Google Forms as I write them all down and then expand on them.

Favourite social medium?

Facebook

Do you give yourself a day off?

Saturday to sew, unless it is a prep day for market set up.

How do you turn your mind off?

Sci fi movies.

Favourite business product?

My pen.

Advice for someone starting out in business?

Write down everything that comes to mind, research and then go for it.

How do you keep imposter syndrome at bay?

Hard one as I have copiers of my style popping up of late and they are bigger organisations than me and it eats at me a tad.

Proudest moment so far in business?

Being nominated for New Business Award after only being in business for 8 months! I kicked my three-year goal.

Hardest moment so far? How did you overcome it?

Finding enough hands to be on deck during a day. I have learnt to ask my vendors for help. This Saturday I have 8 to help with the set-up of the venue - that is unheard of anywhere else in my industry!

Is there anything else we should know, fun, quirky or interesting facts about you?

Well I also run the Hills Fabric and Craft De-Stash. About half my current artisans buy supplies from here to create with. I also play with clay over at Clay Mayhem and have fun creating mens and womens busts with mixed media. I also recently ran one of the bigger Etsy support groups for AU/NZ. This and the Etsy Made I ran last year has everything to blame for the PHAM events happening as 52 out of the 54 wanted another SOON.
